Markus Raich becomes managing director of the joint venture between BMW and Viessmann

  • Clear mission: Consistent integration of energy networks and mobility into innovative products and solutions
  • Digital Energy Solutions drives the development of digital solution offerings
  • Intelligently networked infrastructure for cheap and sustainable charging of electrified vehicles in the company, on the move and at home.
  • New added value and offers also for fleet operators: Systematic further development of e-mobility services

Markus Raich (43), formerly CFO of DriveNow, will be the new Managing Director of Digital Energy Solutions GmbH & Co. KG (, the joint venture of the Viessmann Group and the BMW Group. As of April 01, 2019, Raich will occupy the position alongside Ulrich Schmack, who has been Managing Director of Digital Energy Solutions since its founding in 2015. For more than three years, Digital Energy Solutions has been planning, developing, and marketing successfully integrated digital solutions in the context of electric mobility and energy management.

At DriveNow, graduate businessman Raich, born in Munich, as CFO and Managing Director, was largely responsible for the success and rapid development of becoming the leading car-sharing provider. Since joining DriveNow, Raich has been driving profitable internationalization and setting the course for the strategic development of electromobility – for the company and for partners. “With his many years of experience in urban mobility, Markus Raich will continue to drive forward the successful combination of mobility and energy networks with new, innovative solutions and business models, that’s what Digital Energy Solutions stands for,” says Dr. Ing. Joachim Kolling, Head of Energy Services of the BMW Group.

The era of electromobility is not only characterized by highly attractive electric vehicles, but requires customer-oriented charging offers with low-cost, sustainable electricity. In addition, a continuously growing charging infrastructure as well as intelligent and efficient solutions are necessary to ensure security of supply and grid stability. “Electric mobility has to work as easy as charging a cell phone,” says Digital Energy Solutions’ new CEO, Markus Raich. “That’s why at Digital Energy Solutions we’ll be working hard to make a significant contribution to the development of networked charging infrastructure. In addition, we will develop more innovative charging solutions that allow customers to enjoy the benefits of electromobility easily and conveniently – whether at home, at work or on the road. ”

The product portfolio of Digital Energy Solutions is aimed at business customers. In addition to companies, municipal customers and in particular fleet operators benefit from the systematic development of e-mobility services. Even today, corporate fleets are often semi-electrified, very often with plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV). A consistent expansion of suitable charging infrastructure and its networking increases the attractiveness of e-vehicles. Convenient charging services make electric driving and charging easy – especially for drivers of PHEVs who can make the most of their electric drive. “Company car taxation rightly sets incentives for the use of electric vehicles and PHEVs. By expanding the charging infrastructure and customer-oriented charging offers, we can help to make the PHEVs even more attractive for companies and fleet operators.”, says Raich.

Digital Energy Solutions is a joint venture of BMW Group and Viessmann Group. The aim of the joint venture is tapping into the potential of digitalization for realizing the energy transition. Since January 2016, Digital Energy Solutions has provided integrated solutions for sustainable and cross-sector energy management in electricity, heat and mobility. The goal: achieving the optimum in sustainability, security of supply and energy efficiency for their customers. Based on their proprietary IT platform, Digital Energy Solutions analyzes the energy systems of customers and identifies potentials for optimization in terms of energy generation, demand and consumption. Building on this analysis, Digital Energy Solutions provides a comprehensive energy portfolio including complementary energy market products for energy transition hardware, e.g. battery storage devices, heat pumps, photovoltaic systems and charging solutions, and empowers companies to act as stakeholders in the future electricity market. Customized integrated solutions consisting of a charging infrastructure and solutions for managing electric vehicle fleets enable businesses and their employees easy access to electromobility.
